Some buildings are not allowed to fail.
A mission critical facility is one where an outage is not an inconvenience. It is a hospital losing a surgery, a 911 center losing a call, a command post losing the picture, a plant losing a production run it cannot restart.
The building is the easy part. What makes a facility mission critical is everything behind the walls, and whether it was designed, installed, and proven by people who are accountable for all of it.
Why this is its own capability
On a conventional project, resilience is split across a general contractor, an electrical sub, a mechanical sub, and a commissioning agent who arrives at the end. Every one of them is accountable for their own scope and none of them is accountable for the outcome.
That is how a facility passes every individual inspection and still goes dark. The single points of failure live in the gaps between contracts, which is exactly where nobody is looking.
We self-perform the mechanical and electrical and can generate the power on site, so the redundancy is designed, installed, and proven inside one company. When it does not hold, there is one number to call.

Redundancy that is designed, not assumed
Redundant power paths, standby and prime generation, uninterruptible supply, and mechanical systems sized so a unit can be taken out of service without taking the facility with it.
We name the redundancy standard the project actually requires in the documents rather than reaching for a marketing tier, and we design the on-site generation and the building as one system instead of two.
Hardening and continuity
Physical hardening, progressive collapse and blast criteria where the project calls for them, and islanding capability so the facility keeps operating through a grid event rather than through a generator start it has never actually tested.
Proven before turnover
Commissioning is where mission critical work is either real or theatre. We test the failure case: pull utility power, fail a unit, and watch the facility carry its load, with the results documented and handed over with the building.
The same USACE construction quality management discipline that federal work demands is what this documentation runs on. It is not a separate process we stand up for these projects.
